Feb. 28 – March 2nd 2014 : Calico Ghost Town Camping

We had a great weekend at Calico Camping this weekend.  I was told it rained here all day Saturday and it was raining very hard.  While everyone was stuck indoors here, we had a great time outdoors.  We had 1.5 hours of hard rain on Saturday afternoon but it didn’t bothered us.  We were well prepared for it.  While it was raining, the scouts just kept on going with their scout training inside the pop-up tent with tarped walls and heated inside.  It was raining here on Friday night but it was dry when we arrived and set up camp.  We had the entire camping loop all for ourselves.
On Saturday morning, we went to Calico Ghost Town and had a wonderful time.  We looked in some shops, looked at museum, and climbed the hills with silver mining caves.  We even took some great pictures with scouts and adults inside the mini caves throughout the hill side.  Some scouts/parents went on a horseback riding trip.  We ride on a train and had a tour of the silver mining areas.  We had a tour inside the mining cave.  We had a tour of the mysterious shack and saw balls that rolled up instead of down, water that went up stream, we were standing at a 40 degree angle on the floor, and also, I wasn’t able to stand up while sitting on a chair.
Three of the new scouts completed and earned their boy scout totin chip and fire N chit.  Scouts also completed some of their tenderfoot requirements.  A few of the cub scout siblings joined us and had fun throughout the weekend.  We capped it all with a great dinner and a campfire on Saturday night.
Excellent weekend.  We had fun touring the Calico Ghost Town AND worked on scout requirements also.  This is what Boy Scout activity was meant to be.

Troop 139 & Pack 39 – Cub Scout Camping at Prado

Our Scout Master Mr. Yan instructing them the rules and our day activities would be.

What a blast I had with the scouts. What can I say another successful event for the cub scout camping at Prado. It was busy, busy, busy, on the go all the time. Word active can’t even describe it. The troop was such a trooper that last the whole day, one event after another.

This troop camping had provided them to earn many achievements and educated the basic things we may need to know in life:

  1. Soccer Belt Loop
  2. Soccer Pin
  3. Computer Belt Loop
  4. Map & Compass Belt Loop
  5. Map & Compass Pin
  6. Whittling Chip – Pocket Knife Safety
